Abstract

In an increasingly globalized world, the integration of cultural aesthetics into contemporary design practices is essential for fostering identity, preserving heritage, and creating meaningful user experiences. This research examines how traditional motifs, materials, and storytelling can be harmonized with modern design thinking frameworks to produce innovative, functional, and culturally resonant outcomes. Employing a mixed-method approach, 50 multidisciplinary design projects across architecture, industrial design, fashion, and digital media were analyzed using case studies, designer interviews, and user surveys. Results indicate that integrating cultural aesthetics enhances user engagement, strengthens emotional connections, and supports sustainable heritage preservation. Challenges include maintaining authenticity, avoiding cultural appropriation, and aligning traditional elements with contemporary functional demands. The study proposes guidelines for designers and educators to implement culturally-informed design thinking, emphasizing iterative prototyping, community collaboration, and ethical engagement with cultural resources.
